Firefighter Career Expo Comes to Sacramento April 5

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - As opportunities into the firefighting career path continue to open up, young people across the state are exploring the possibility of becoming a firefighter and fire departments across California are actively recruiting their next generation of firefighters. People considering joining this challenging yet rewarding profession can get a glimpse of their future at the free Firefighter Career Expo.

WHEN: Saturday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: Firefighter Candidate Testing Ctr, 2560 River Plaza Dr, Sacramento, CA 95833
 
Over 500 candidates are registered to attend the event, with more expected to register in the lead-up to the Career Expo and on-site the day of. Media are invited to join; please contact [email protected].

Presented by the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (Cal-JAC), the Career Expo is a unique opportunity for aspiring firefighters to directly connect with 28 fire departments, many of which are actively hiring. This exclusive access allows attendees to gain valuable insights and network with potential employers. The event also offers hands-on practice with the testing required to apply to become a firefighter and a chance to learn about the life of a firefighter. This free event is open to people of all ages and is family-friendly. Register at this link or on-site at the event.

Hands-on Experiences. At the Expo, attendees can try their hand at the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), the test that proves you are "fit for duty." This interactive session is designed to give you a taste of the physical demands of the job. You can also learn about the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center written test, a widely used pre-employment testing platform, to prepare for your future career as a firefighter.
  • Fire Recruiters On-Site. Representatives from 28 departments from across the state will be on hand to answer questions about their departments and how to get hired.
  • "A Day in the Life of a Firefighter." This presentation provides in-depth insights into the daily challenges and rewards of life on the front lines, hosted by experienced firefighters and mentors.
  • "Roadmap to Becoming a Firefighter." This presentation provides an in-depth overview of the steps attendees need to take to become a firefighter, including education, written testing, physical testing, and tips to get hired.
  • Apparatus Displays. Firefighters will be on hand to answer candidate questions and to show them the "tools of the trade." This interactive experience allows attendees to get up close and personal with the equipment used in firefighting, providing a unique learning opportunity.
  • Free to All. Families welcome! A kid-friendly version of the CPAT will be available, and a free lunch will be provided.
